Hi.  I’m Dr. Christopher Mote, and this is another ARK Clinical Pearl.  And today, we’re going to talk about another bad habit, and that is one of poor glycemic control – patients who are eating too many carbohydrates relative to their protein intake, or skipping meals altogether.  When that happens, in either case, the end result can be a low glycemic episode, and that’s going to stimulate the patient’s HPA axis.

It’s a stress.  It’s a stress from the diet, which is a reflection of some poor habits.  In order to help patients change these habits, we oftentimes need to show them the effects of their diet.  So we use a diet diary in our practice, and it’s one that the patients bring filled out.

But you can certainly give them a diet diary on their first visit.  There’s one included – a copy for you to use – in the ARK Physician Roadmap.  In either case, once you’ve identified for the patient the meals that they skip, the carbohydrates that they’re eating in excess, then we need to help them change that habit.

And the ARK Starter Kit includes a couple of great tools to do exactly that, the first of which is the ARK Patient Guide.  And it’s something they can take a look at, go through, and identify the areas where they need to make changes.

The second thing, and probably the most important for blood sugar control, is the glycemic foundation.  This is a rice protein based high-fiber drink that we ask them to start with one scoop and work their way to two scoops a day – that will help to control both the highs and the lows of the blood sugar swings that will activate the HPA axis.

So by utilizing the glycemic foundation to compliment their own efforts in changing their blood sugar habits, we can remove one of the key stress inducers of the HPA axis and help these patients regain their health.  Also, one of the tools that we’ve included in the ARK Starter Kit to help patients balance their blood sugar is the ARK Tempo Bars.

We’ve included samples of both the chocolate mint and the apple cinnamon, so that your patients can determine which, or both, that they’d like to reorder.  And there’s a coupon in that ARK Starter Kit that allows them to reorder them and get a little discount.  The Tempo Bars are fantastic for putting in your pocket when you’re on the go, so that you don’t let your blood sugar drop, and then stimulate your HPA axis.

And the idea is, once again, for patients to change their habits for better blood sugar control and regain their health.
